Behind Baseline: Why We Started
Share
Baseline started with a simple observation.
Coffee is already part of the job.
It is sitting on the counter before the shift starts. It's in the cup holder on the way to the station. It's poured between calls, reheated after the tones drop, and sometimes forgotten entirely until three hours later.
For a lot of medics, coffee isn't just coffee.
It's part of the ritual.
And we thought it deserved to have a coffee of its own.
Baseline Coffee Co. was built around one simple idea: coffee for medics.
Not coffee with a medic-themed label slapped on the bag. Not another generic coffee company trying to put a badge, stethoscope, or ambulance on everything. Something built specifically around the people who actually drink it.
The people who start shifts when most of the world is still asleep. The people who drink their first cup standing at a station counter. The people who can go from laughing with the crew to running a serious call in the space of a few minutes. The people who work twelve hours, twenty-four hours, nights, weekends, holidays—and still show up the next day.
That's the culture we wanted Baseline to live in.
Why coffee?
Because coffee is one of those small things that becomes part of the rhythm of a shift. There are bigger things in this profession, obviously. Training matters. Equipment matters. Experience matters. Preparation matters.
But the little rituals matter too. The first cup before the day really starts. The conversation around the station coffee pot. The cup you grab before walking out the door. The coffee that somehow tastes better at 0300 because you've already been awake for far too long.
Those moments aren't the job. But they're part of the job. And that's where Baseline belongs.
We wanted something that felt like us.
That meant keeping things simple. Good coffee. Strong names. A visual identity that feels like the station instead of a coffeehouse. Roasts built around the way people actually drink coffee during a shift.
12-LEAD. NIGHT OPS. SHIFT. STATIC.
Each one has its own personality, but they're all built around the same idea: coffee that belongs in the hands of people who work the shift. We aren't trying to make coffee complicated. We're trying to make it good.
Baseline isn't about pretending the job is glamorous.
There are plenty of polished images of first-responder life. The trucks. The lights. The uniforms. The action. Those are part of it. But there's another side. The quiet station. The tired crew. The cold coffee. The paperwork. The long nights. The conversation at the kitchen table. The five minutes of peace before the next call.
That's where Baseline lives. Not in the highlight reel. In the shift.
Why "Baseline"?
Because everyone has one. A baseline is the standard you return to. The place you start from. The thing you build everything else on.
For us, that idea extends beyond coffee. Show up. Be prepared. Do the work. Take pride in what you do. Keep getting better. Then do it again tomorrow.
That's the mentality behind the name. And that's why Baseline isn't just another coffee brand. It's coffee built around a culture we know, respect, and genuinely enjoy being part of.
We're still building it. We're still figuring things out. We're still learning what people want, what they don't, and where this thing can go.
But the foundation is pretty simple. Coffee for medics. For the early mornings. The late nights. The long shifts. The quiet moments. The chaotic ones. And that first cup before the tones drop.
Welcome to Baseline.
The Roasts
Four roasts. One mission. Find yours.
- SHIFT — Medium Roast — The everyday carry. Smooth, balanced, built for the long haul.
- 12-LEAD — Dark Roast — Bold, dark chocolate, smoky. The flagship roast for people who don’t mess around.
- NIGHT OPS — Espresso Roast — When the shift is overnight and the stakes are high. Dark, intense, no apologies.
- STATIC — Decaf — Off the clock but not off the ritual. Same profile, no caffeine.
